A symposium on "GUST Model" (Guangdong
University of Science and Technology, GUST) of high-level application-oriented
university was held at room 512, Administrative Building, Nancheng Campus, GUST
on the afternoon of Nov 22. Professor Wei Zhonglin, former Deputy Director of
the Department of Education of Guangdong Province, Vice President of GUST Li
Cai and Wang Yanbin, and the main members of teams on different programs attended
the meeting, which was presided over by Qiu Linrun, Deputy Director of the Center
of Quality Control.
At the symposium, Qiu Linrun, head of the
specialized research work, gave a report on "Several Issues concerning
application-oriented universities and the construction of high-level
application-oriented universities", in which he introduced the basic
situation of specialized research work and put forward the implementation of
"eight tasks" as an important point for the construction of a high-level
application-oriented university to realize the goal of building the "GUST
Model".
The heads of the eight teams reported and
exchanged opinions from four aspects of the research background, research
content, research progress and expected results. Professor Wei provided precise
directions and specific requirements for the eight teams.
After that, Vice President Li Cai commented
on the specialized research work. He analyzed the logical relationship of the
eight research work, put forward the research methodology of “theory-practice-theory”,
and required each team to make a serious research proposal, to study the
literature carefully, and to implement research work systematically. And in
this way, they would gradually form a “GUST model”with characteristics.
At last, Professor Wei Zhonglin, a consultant
to the Nanbo Group, delivered a concluding speech, in which he analyzed the
main issues in the construction of current application-oriented undergraduate
education, proposed the establishment of a two-level construction and standard evaluation
framework. He affirmed the previous research achievements and proposed
integration ideas for the specialized research work. Then, he proposed the
basic framework of the draft of "Research on the Construction Elements of
High-level Application-oriented Universities" and put forward the eight
tasks of the construction of the high-level application-oriented universities. Finally,
he suggested that the research topic of "high-level application-oriented
universities" should focus on problem-solving research with innovation.
This symposium laid a good foundation for GUST’s
school-running orientation of building a "high-level application-oriented
university" in “GUST model”, and more goals were to be achieved.
