Recently, GUST’s president Liang Ruixiong received an exclusive interview with Xinhuanet to exchange views on the school's discipline construction, talent cultivation as well as students’ employment after graduation.
“The development of a university is determined by the school-running orientation.” President Liang mentioned in the interview. In recent years, the school has adjusted its orientation of running the school from "high-level applied university" to "high-level applied innovation university".
Since its establishment, GUST has been focusing on the construction of key disciplines, continuously optimizing the structure of disciplines, actively promoting the reform of talent training mode, deepening school-enterprise cooperation and integration of production and education, and improving the level of discipline construction. In recent years, the school has scientifically constructed an evaluation system based upon the five dimensions of the development of "moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetics and labor education", and built a high-level applied innovation university through the education model of five dimensions. There have been more than 37,000 full-time students graduating from GUST and 80% of them are working in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area since the foundation of GUST. It is estimated that nearly 6,000 highly-skilled applied as well as innovative talents will graduate from GUST and work in this area every year in the future.
According to president Liang, GUST has set up the first cross-border e-commerce major of Guangdong Province and has been officially approved to enrol students this year. In the future, GUST will actively apply for new engineering programs to cultivate more compound talents to make a contribution to local economic and social development and better serve the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
