Freshmen of GUST of this year came to school and registered for the new semester between Oct. 9 and 17. There are 12,000 students who have been admitted to GUST this year, including full-time undergraduates and junior college students. After the registration day of this year, the number of full-time students of the two campuses of GUST will exceed 27,000, and the proportion of undergraduates will reach 92%.
In order to meet the requirements of pandemic prevention and control, freshmen were divided into four batches to register for the new semester. Freshmen of the Songshan Lake campus registered on Oct. 11, and those of Nancheng campus on Oct. 17.
The total number of full-time students of the Songshan Lake campus this year has reached 10,000. “A laboratory building, two dormitory buildings, a large canteen, as well as outdoor sports venues such as a basketball court, a tennis court, and a badminton court have been built at the Songshan Lake campus, which can fully satisfy more than 10,000 students in their study and life. More Teaching buildings, laboratory buildings and student dormitories will be built. The total construction area of Songshan Lake campus will reach 855,000 square meters, which can accommodate 25,000 students.” said teacher Li from the Office of Student Affairs.
Since the Songshan Lake campus has been put into utilization, GUST has entered the mode of running the university of "one university, two campuses". The investment in running the school has continued to increase, and the quality of teaching has improved rapidly as well. In order to further improve the overall work of welcoming freshmen, GUST set up special work groups. Under the coordination of the Office of Student Affairs, 13 work groups were built up, and more than 10,000 freshmen were included in the "14 days’ health check before registration".
At the freshmen-welcoming scene, Dongguan Nancheng Police Station, Nancheng Street Office of Drug Control, Songshan Lake Police Station and other government units also came to the campus to participate in the work of welcoming freshmen, carrying out anti-telecom fraud and anti-drug publicity for the majority of students, freshmen included. Police officers of the Nancheng Xiping Police Station also handed out propaganda materials to students to remind them to pay attention to their property safety. The Office of Security and the campus guard were directing the traffic on and around the campus in an orderly manner.
GUST continued the "one-stop" registration mode this year. All freshmen have completed the online registration and payment in advance, and they have also chosen the dormitory on the Internet before registration, so that freshmen only needed to complete the confirmation procedure on the registration day, which greatly simplified the registration process and improved the efficiency of the registration.
