Successful Completion of the 2018 Third Dongguan-Taiwan College Students Summer Camp

In the afternoon of July 19, the Third Dongguan-Taiwan College Students Summer Camp successfully completed. The activity was sponsored by Taiwan Compatriots Association of Guangdong province, Dongguan Bureau of Taiwan Affairs and Guangdong University of Science and Technology (GUST), and co-organized by Dongguan-Taiwan Economic and Cultural Exchange Center as well as International Education College of GUST. The activity, with the slogan of "Beautiful Dongguan, Cross-strait Counterparts", was held in Dongguan from July 10 to 19. More than 50 teachers and students from several universities in Dongguan and 45 teachers and students from five different universities in Taiwan took part in the summer camp. The campers took part in various kinds of team activities under the leadership of their team coaches, including “ History of Dongguan”, “ Industry of Dongguan”, “ Sport in Dongguan”, “Culture of Dongaun”, “Charming Guangzhong” and “Group Cross-city Orienteering” in this 10-day summer camp, starting from July 11 at GUST. Under the guidance of local students, 45 Taiwan teachers and students visited the Nanshe Ancient Village, Machong and Aloes Museum of Dongguan, and had a fine Lingnan cultural course. They also visited the Wonderful Group, Songshan Lake Cross-Strait Youth Entrepreneurial Base and the Chinese Academy of Sciences Split Neutron Source, experiencing the charm of this “Modern Manufacturing City” from different angles. Lastly, they visited Li Yongbo Badminton school, participated in the intriguing basketball game at GUST, and experienced the unlimited vitality of Dongguan, the city of sports. In the afternoon of July 18, the closing ceremony was held at GUST, marking the success of this activity. At the ceremony, everyone reviewed the 10-day summer camp through video. And then all 8 groups of the campers gave a self-directed performance, including singing, dancing, musical drama, drama and skits. The short act "Gradually Fell in Love with You" and dance " Time Travel" twice highlighted the atmosphere, deeply infecting all the audiences. Watching the unforgettable moments showed on screen, many campers moved into tears. After that, deputy researcher of Dongguan Taiwan Affairs Office , Xie Chun, Party secretary of GUST, Liang Ruixiong and director of Dongguan-Taiwan Economic and Cultural Exchange Center, Liu Weifeng respectively gave awards to the top-three teams winning the competition in the summer camp. Afterwards, the deputy researcher, Xie Chun granted the award of “ Excellent Hosting Organization” to GUST Luo Simin, representing Dongguan students and Li Zhengxian, representing Taiwan Students, expressed how much they appreciate this opportunity of exploring the history, custom and beauty of this city. Also, students from Taiwan welcome students from Dongguan to Taiwan for exchanges and to experience Taiwan's cultural customs and strengthen the connection. This summer camp has deepened the friendship, enhanced mutual understanding and strengthened the consensus of one family on both sides of the straits, and made positive contributions to the sustainable development of culture and economy of Dongguan and Taiwan.
