To speed up the preparations for the foundation of the City University of Macau (Guangzhou), Chen Mingjin, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the City University of Macau (CityU), and Liu Jun, President of the City University of Macau, were invited to visit GUST on June 5. Liu Dongfeng, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Nanbo Group, Liang Ruixiong, President of GUST, Zhou Er’yong, Executive Vice President of GUST, led leaders and staff members of GUST to warmly welcome guests from CityU-a delegation of 22 people, and accompanied them to visit the Nancheng Campus, the Songshan Lake Campus, the construction land located in Guangzhou which is planned for the City University of Macau (Guangzhou), and the Huawei Dongguan Base, a partner enterprise of GUST, and an exchange meeting on the preparations for the City University of Macau (Guangzhou) was held. Li Jinjun, Director of the Cooperation and Exchange Office (Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office) of the Department of Education of Guangdong Province, Zhong Weihe, formal president of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, and Wu Jianli, Executive Dean of the Aberdeen Institute of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence of South China Normal University, were invited to attend the meeting.
At the exchange meeting, Chairman Liu Dongfeng extended his welcome to the guests from CityU, and hoped this trip would promote academic exchanges, enhance mutual understanding, and strengthen the confidence in the joint school-running between GUST and CityU. Chairman Chen Mingjin extended his gratitude for the warm reception of GUST, said that they were deeply impressed by GUST’s good conditions of school running and the vigorous development momentum, and hoped that the preparation teams of both universities would accelerate the progress of preparations.
Then, President Liang Ruixiong and President Liu Jun respectively introduced the development of the two universities, and both indicated that they would cooperate closely and spare no effort to do a solid job in the preparations for the joint school-running in accordance with the instructions given by the board of directors.
Prof. Wu Jianli, an expert of the evaluation of sino-foreign cooperation in school-running of the Ministry of Education, provided guiding suggestions for the application and preparations of the City University of Macau (Guangzhou) from the aspects of policies and regulations, school investment, and formulation of talent training.
Director Li Jinjun emphasized that the cooperation and development of higher education is a significant part of the construction of the Greater Bay Area, and the government encourages joint school-running between institutions of higher education in Hong Kong and Macao and on the mainland, and that the Department of Education of Guangdong Province will, as always, fully support the cooperation between GUST and CityU.
