The first “Social Science Cup” speech contest in Dongguan City was successfully held in the academic lecture hall on the 7th floor of the Library Building at Nancheng Campus on Oct. 19. The guests present at the competition included: Wang Weidong, Party Secretary of the Social Science Association in Dongguan City, Chairman, Dean of the Social Science Institute, Yin Guoqiang, member of the Social Science Association in Dongguan City, Vice Chairman, Deputy Dean of the Social Science Institute, Ye Yirong, Chief of the Spiritual Civilization Coordination Section of the Propaganda Department of Dongguan City, Wang Yanbin, Vice Chairman of the Social Science Federation of GUST and Vice President of GUST. Liang Yanhong, a teacher from the Department of Ideological and Political Theory of our school, won the third prize, and our school won the award of “Excellent Organization Award”.
Since the contest’s launch in May, a total of 116 manuscripts from 62 units have been received in the essay collection stage. The authors include scholars from colleges and universities, teachers, and cultural workers from colleges and universities, as well as villagers, workers, and veterans, and they tell their stories related to the development of Dongguan City from the perspective of themselves and their deep feelings towards thier families and the country, and showed the world a true as well as comprehensive Dongguan City.
20 players were invited to compete in the preliminary competition, and finally 10 players were selected for the finals. On the day of the finals, 10 speakers made every effort to share their stories with Dongguan City from different angles and vocations. The competition was completed as a success. After the judges assessed, 1 first prize, 3 second prizes, 6 third prizes were awarded.
This speech contest is of great significance for further promoting the development of social science and humanities in Dongguan City and fully inspiring its cultural innovation and vitality.
