The University of Western Australia (UWA) was founded in 1911, and is located in Perth, the capital of Western Australia. It is one of Australia's Group of Eight and among Australia's most historic, representative and top research universities. Having produced over 100 Rhodes Scholarships winners and Nobel Prize winners, it is a member of the World University Alliance (WUN) and Matariki Network of Universities (MNU). Program introduction
The summer visit program to UWA is rich in content, including language and culture courses, activity classes, academic experience classes, research programs, week of visiting east coast, among other items. Students will get a ID after registering as a visiting student of UWA, and will obtain a certificate and a transcript from UWA upon the completion of required courses. A visiting student will stay in a local host family in Perth, and a hotel located in the downtown of Sydney during the 4th week of cultural visit.
Program content:
1. There is a theoretical course arranged in the morning with about 15 students per class. In total there are 20 hours of courses per week at the visitors’ center at UWA, including English/cultural/professional courses .
2、Participants can attend selective courses according to class schedules, and study with local students at UWA from the end of July to November. Popular courses from previous visits include Prices and Markets, Introduction to Finance, Biological Behavior, Biological Chemistry, Introduction to Geology, Statistics for Science and Modern Physics. Students need to check the updated class schedule upon arrival at UWA.
3、Innovative entrepreneurship, postgraduate program application, among other activities, will be organized to invite experts from UWA or current doctorate students to join the participants of the program on academics and inspiration on innovative entrepreneurial thinking. Students will also have further opportunities to learn about the preparatory courses for a Master’s Degree in universities in the Commonwealth, Europe and the U.S., as well as tips for application of other world-renowned universities;
4、Field trips are organized in the afternoon to investigate and carry out research practice. Participants will visit UWA colleges and departments, famous local venues, businesses, innovative start-ups and enterprises for learning of business management thinking and methodology;
5、Workshop activities will be organized to invite local students from corresponding colleges for discussion with the participants. Previous sessions touched upon a variety of topics, such as environmental protection, bridge design, robotics, artificial intelligence, principle of flotation, simulated teaching, among others, to enhance teamwork and organizational coordination ability;
6、Project research and presentation of findings. Students will be assigned specific tasks, and conduct relevant researches, followed by complete data visualization, research results summary and a roadshow presentation on the day of program completion. A certificate of completion will then be issued by UWA with an evaluation from an expert panel.
7、Participants will stay with local host families in Perth during the visit to experience real Australian way of life, which is conducive to improve their English communication skills and understanding of local culture.
8、Cultural Visit Week is open for selection, including a one-week visit to Sydney and Canberra after the 3-week course. The universities to be visited include the Australian National University (ANU) and the University of Sydney. Activities include visits to famous attractions in Sydney and Canberra, a one-day trip to the Blue Mountains, Experience Day of Australian Farms, BBQ, among other items, which will enable students to understand the higher education of Australia, human landscape, industrial economy and enhance the value of the trip.

Expense description
The cost of the 3-week course is approximately AUD 6,200 (ca. RMB 31,000, subject to exchange rate fluctuations), which includes tuition, program design and management fees, activity class fees, accommodation, homestay breakfast and dinner (3 meals on weekend days), and part of public transportation fare. The cost does not include international round-trip flight tickets (application for funding is optional), visa fee, overseas insurance, lunch and personal expenses.
The 4th week cultural visit fee is about AUD 1,900 (ca. RMB 9,500) which includes domestic (Australia) flight ticket, accommodation and breakfast, shuttle bus, driver and tour guide fees, admission to selective tourist attractions. The fee does not include admission to optional tourist attractions, lunch and dinner.
Program funding
Students who have registered and passed the interview will be eligible for funding of international round-trip flight tickets (no more than RMB 8,000). 15 students in total will be funded by the university subject to the “first come first served” policy.
Application requirements
1. Full-time undergraduate students;
2. Competence in basic English listening/speaking, reading/writing skills to sit in classes taught in English only;
3. Physically and mentally healthy, independent, with good adaptability skills;
4. Compliance with laws and regulations, consciously safeguard national image and university reputation, depart from and return to China in strict accordance with the specified time period by the university.
