On May 4th, Professor Xie Weixin, leader of the Electronic Subject Evaluation Group of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, national expert with outstanding contributions, former president of Shenzhen University and director of the Academic Committee, visited Songshan Lake Campus of our University for investigation and guidance.
On behalf of GUST, Executive Vice President Zhou Eryong extended a warm welcome to Professor Xie, and introduced the school's overall development plan and "one school and two districts" management model. The group visited the new campus landscape "Big dense, big sparse, two banks of a River, Double Dragons playing beads", and focused on the "Smart Campus" central control system, Huawei ICT Industry College and Tencent Cloud Industry College. Tian Liwei, Dean of the School of Computer Science, also introduced the construction of the two industrial schools to Professor Xie.
Professor Xie Weixin fully affirmed the development of GUST and the construction of new campus. He said that GUST as a well-known private application-oriented undergraduate university in China, which is based on the development of the Bay Area, has a clear direction and construction goals, and has made continuous exploration in all aspects, and has achieved gratified achievements and remarkable results in running the school.
He also put forward valuable suggestions for the development of the university: first, GUST can continue to strengthen co-construction with leading enterprises in the industry, adhere to the needs of regional industrial development as the guidance, relying on the construction of industrial college, so as to explore an innovative way for the development of application-oriented undergraduate universities. Second, the university can attach great importance to the construction of master's degree granting project, and give full play to its own advantages, making good use of external postdoctoral research workstations and postdoctoral innovation practice bases to further build the brand of the university. At the same time, GUST should grasp the opportunity of introducing high-level talents and setting up doctoral workstations in recent years, and timely explore the talent training path of post-doctoral entry and exit stations, so as to organically integrate it with the construction of the university's teaching staff. Third, it should make good use of the location advantages of the school, taking the initiative to connect with high-level applied universities at home and abroad, and strengthen exchanges and cooperation in cooperative education, personnel training, teacher training and other aspects.
Professor Xie expressed his belief that with the full support of Nanbo Group, the correct leadership of the university and the joint efforts of all the teachers, students and staff, GUST will surely become a first-class application-oriented university well-known in China.
Zhou Eryong thanked Professor Xie for his affirmation and guidance. He said that GUST would stick to the orientation of being based in Dongguan, serving Guangdong and facing the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and strengthen the connection with high-level universities in the region, deepen the integration of industry and education with leading enterprises in high-tech industries, and continue to cultivate high-quality application and innovative talents, in order to provide technical support and personnel guarantee for the construction of the Bay Area and the high-quality development of Guangdong.
