The College of Computer Science, founded in 2003, is one of the key engineering colleges in GUST, and aims at high-qualified talent cultivation, especially in information technology for the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area as well as the whole country. It opens 5 undergraduate programs in Software Engineering, Internet of Things Engineering, Network Engineering, Data Science and Big Data, Information Management and Information System, and 1 specialized program in Computer Application Technology.
The Software Engineering program is a key program as well as a pilot reform comprehensive major at the provincial level, and the Network Engineering program, as a key program of GUST, has been recognized by the IEET engineering education, and the Internet of Things Engineering program is a popular emerging program. The college has established a Center of Software Engineering Application and Research, an Institute of Application Technology Research of Network Engineering and a Center of Application, Research and Development of Internet of Things Engineering, among which the Center of Application, Research and Development of Internet of Things Engineering has been recognized as a key platform at the provincial level.
There are 86 full-time teachers, including 12 professors and 7 doctors, and 95% of teachers have a master's degree or higher. There are 61 professional experimental training laboratories, such as a laboratory of information security and the Huawei Network Laboratory.
Teachers of the college undertake or participate in 6 national-level projects in the professional field, 36 provincial- and municipal-level projects (including 1 provincial-level key platform and 9 scientific research projects at the provincial level), 126 projects at the school level, published more than 460 academic papers in provincial and national journals. Students are encouraged to participate in various disciplines and professional competitions at all levels. Since 2011, students of the College of Computer Science have won 44 national awards and 200 provincial awards in national, provincial and municipal competitions.
